Action plan to reduce noise pollution in Goa has been finalized

Silence is golden but sometimes many of us are deprived of a peaceful atmosphere. A plan for mapping and monitoring noise has been finalized by the state government. The plan includes measures to reduce noise in silent zones, and industrial, commercial, and residential areas.

According to the plan, any loudspeakers, musical instruments, sound amplifiers, etc, can’t be used in public areas without permission from the authorities. Police officials and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will regularly map out noise-levels. The plan also states that the transport department should keep a check on vehicles’ horns and other devices which produces sound and make sure they comply with the M V Act’s rules.

Theeducation or higher education department will go about making students aware about the provision of these rules. On a different note, while giving permission for development projects, the planning and development authorities, town and country planning department, public works department, and other government departments should take noise pollution into consideration and recognize the fact that it affects quality of life.
