Goa is a great place to get beautiful ingredients. People can obtain local ingredients as well as ingredients from other States which leads to unforgettable culinary experiences and lip-smacking dishes. Famous local dishes include Cafreal, Vindaloo, Ambotik, Xacutti, Samarachi Kodi, and more. Fresh produce can be obtained from local markets like Margao Municipal Market, Panaji Market, Mapusa Market, etc.
This year, Goa faced a bump in the road in the form of unseasonal rain which caused onion prices to rise. Currently, one kilogram of onions in Panaji costs Rs.60. Sellers expected this because the unexpected rain in January affected the harvest. Additionally, the recent February thunderstorms caused some damage to the onions being transported to Goa.
The good news is that horticulture outlets run by the government haven’t been affected. “We procure onions from Nagpur and Solapur where there has not been much impact of the rain. The quality of the onions procured from these areas is not affected during transportation either,” Sandeep Faldesai, managing director of the Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd (GSHCL), revealed.
