Talk with Gautami Raiker (CEO – Legal Capsule)
You hail from?
What made you start this Startup in Goa?
Being a lawyer, I witnessed that the process of managing legal paperwork is still outdated. The Information Technology Act anyways recognises digital contracts but the enterprises are using traditional methods for executing legal paperwork for their HR, Sales and procurement processes.
In 2018, an idea struck as to why not build an application that can bring in efficiency in managing contracts digitally. I mean thinking beyond electronic signatures, building an application that will allow businesses to create, negotiate clauses, e-sign and store contracts in the digital cloud, having renewal alerts, procuring stamp papers online etc. That’s how The Legal Capsule was born.
If you weren’t building your startup in Goa, where would you be located and doing what?
Before venturing into entrepreneurship, I was planning to pursue doctorate (Ph.D.) from a European University and work there during such tenure. My passion is in legal-tech and I want to polish my knowledge and skills in this domain.
What’s your startup about?
The Legal Capsule is a Contract Lifecycle Management Platform. One Platform for Contract Templates, drafting, negotiation, signing, storing Legal Contracts. Helping Businesses to close deals faster and efficiently.
Is your Startup about a Product or a Service?
It’s a product- web application- SAAS platform built for enterprises globally.
What’s unique about your product/services?
A complete contract management solution- at no stage in the whole process you are required to print a document. Its totally paperless. We offer contract templates, clause library to choose for in each contract, approval workflows, negotiation, and storage in cloud. We also offer mediation services for any commercial contract dispute as an out of court settlement of dispute mechanism.
In a few sentences, what do you offer to whom?
We offer a contract management solution to startups, SMEs and large scale enterprises.
Does your startup also serve International clients from and in Goa itself?
Yes, we do serve International Clients.
Do you and your team head to any beach/waterfall for getting refreshed? Which one normally?
We do have birthday celebration parties, team lunches and casual meet ups.
Do you have Happy Hours during the week? When? How does that help?
We follow one principle. Making sure one is happy when in office. So we have a very friendly environment. It doubles the efficiency and builds stronger relationships. Happy hours must be every hour that you spend at work. That’s the work ethic at The Legal Capsule.
What do you love about your team?
Team work, very supportive and decision makers. That’s what I love about my team. Luckily, I found the best.
Do you miss your other office locations while you are in Goa?
Yes, I do. But I prefer to have my headquarters in Goa. I do and will visit other locations to keep the operations steady and going.
Any challenges that you are facing or faced while building your startup in Goa?
The decision to shift from a full time job to actually having a startup itself is challenging at the beginning. But as it is said, risk taking is a must in entrepreneurship. I jumped into my startup full time and started doing all job roles – marketing, sales, legal, etc. We have a beautiful startup ecosystem in Goa. That helped me to grow. Just networking is a must.
Anything else that you would like to mention the ‘Startup’ Business in Goa?
The startup ecosystem in Goa is very progressive. The Government of Goa has so many schemes for startups to avail from. We just need to have the will to begin and grow. Building something of your own as a startup is a smooth journey. The helping hand from Government, Industry is a must which you will find in Goa.
