11th April, 2017: Loud music in coastal areas has always been a bone of contention between tourists, governments and the locals. It has often been blamed for causing disturbance not only to everyday living of locals but also severe harm to the fauna of these areas. In an attempt to curb loud music in coastal regions at night, Goa is drafting its’ own Sound Pollution Act. Previously the state’s sound pollution control rules were based on that of MP state’s act for the same, which many stakeholders felt was not strict enough. With the tourism season already in its’ fag end, it can be expected that this new rule will be ready and in place before the next season begins.
