Four-laning of the bypass road which runs from Verna to Seraulim is done, whereas the work needed for the Varca to Navelim road is still underway. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Deepak Pauskar said that no extra land acquisition is planned for the project of the western bypass in South Goa. He revealed that 85% completion of the project has been achieved.
The Benaulim and Seraulim panchayats objected to the bypass’ construction because they were afraid that filling the land would lead to flooding. The village people insisted that the road going through Seraulim should be built on stilts. The suggested solution to this was to have extra waterways. The Navelim panchayat’ objected as well to the embankment by filling up the land, as villagers said that it would wreck their fields. As a solution to this, the PWD opted for two bridges of 147m and 146m which are being constructed. A provision for an underpass catering to vehicles at Bellem/Telaulim will be made by the PWD.
