There is a park in Goa that has been made out of waste… Talk about some major recycling! This community project is located in Maina.
Scrap metal, a bathtub, a damaged canoe, waste tyres, and even an old bullock cart have been used for this children’s park. The waste material was sold or donated by the village locals. This place is inside St Xavier Vidyalaya, Maina-Corgao.
So what does this park have? For starters, there is a geodesic dome which is a combination of triangles that can turn into other shapes like pentagons. It was built using GI pipes. Children can use it as an outdoor classroom which makes studying fun.
The other waste has been turned into fun learning tools to help develop hand-eye coordination and muscle coordination. For example, the bathtub has an attached pulley so that the children can lift up sand, water, and other materials which can help them get familiar with the concept of weight. The full park will be fenced and have educational signboards teaching about Goa’s culture, local produce, biodiversity, etc.
