Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa to be closed for a month

The iconic Basilica of Bom Jesus which is located in Old Goa will be closed for a month, starting from September 5. This is because the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Mumbai, will be treating this World Heritage Site for termites to protect it.

The ASI was requested to do this work for a long time and they finally accepted the project. The full place will be covered because gases are needed to eliminate the termites and any other wood-destroying creatures. The front area of the Basilica will be covered by the water resources department where the pandal is put during feast days. In 2021, this area was flooded during the monsoon and devotees faced inconveniences.

In short, because of all the termite and drainage work, people won’t be able to see the Basilica for a month.
