Which city in Goa is going to become way cooler? Panaji! By August 2023, there will be a skating rink, artificial climbing wall, botanical garden, and a pedestrian walkway that will connect Santa Monica jetty and the mangrove boardwalk behind the Central Library. The pathway is planned to be 800 sqm in length approximately.
The work has already begun. Rs. 27 crore is the approximate cost of the project. Unused areas in Patto along the Rua de Ourem creek will be turned into a huge green space containing the new facilities. All this is under the Smart City Mission. The new pathway will help people explore Panaji’s green spaces.
The land behind SBI which is 9000 sqm will be converted into a botanical garden. Three small wood footbridges will connect the Central Library and botanical garden.
Ourem creek’s mini island will have an entrance gateway north side from the current footbridge. Visitors will get to walk through four Goan-style pavilions which will have shops on both sides. Benches facing the waterfront will be set up so that pedestrians and workers can relax here.
Other perks include boating, new toilets, recreational areas, and mangrove preservation.
