It is no secret that vehicles running on petrol or diesel gives out toxins, leads to air pollution, affects health, and contributes to global warming. To combat this, a load of incentives will be given to citizens who purchase electric vehicles (EV’s).
They will be given the offer to exchange their current two-wheelers which run on petrol for electric bikes. This will act as a cash incentive. “We have close to a million two-wheelers in Goa comprising almost 70% of the state’s vehicle population. These will be converted into electric two-wheelers,” Nilesh Cabral, Minister for environment and new and renewable energy, stated.
There is the proposal to decrease the registration fee of the electric vehicles by 5%. A subsidy will also be given to make them more affordable. “They run purely on electricity, don’t cause emissions and are therefore environment friendly,” Cabral added. Public charging stations are being installed in Goa.
Three high-capacity combo EV chargers 122-150kW, type 2 AC standards have been installed in the State. These can charge vehicles that are built for travelling long distances such as Tata Nexon, Hyundai Kona, and Maurice Garage. By this month, chargers for medium-range EV’s will be ready. This will contribute to cleaner air in Goa.
