Museum of Goa invites you to a talk on‘PERFORMANCE ART: of body, thought, challenges and possibilities’ by Parvez (A multidisciplinary, conceptual and performance artist from India – currently based in Switzerland.), on Sunday, 24th July 2022 from 11: 30 AM onwards.
Performance Art often poses a challenge to many, in terms of how to gauge and where to place it. While Performance Artists explore and expand (in some cases even confine/define) this relatively newer form, most white-cube-styled art spaces struggle to fit it in, except for spicing up an event (e.g. art opening) with something unusual. Then, there is the art market, still not sure about how to place a ‘value’ on it.
In such a scenario, what potential and possibilities does Performance Art hold if any, and what kind of challenges may one face?
About PARVEZ
A multidisciplinary, conceptual and performance artist from India, currently based in Switzerland.
Parvez works around identities, the notion of status-quo and (neo)colonialism. He experiments with form and builds narratives that are often grounded in routine socio-political conditions. Besides Performance/Live Art, he also engages with Installation, Video, Image, Text and others form through a variety of media that range from the body, Images (moving and still), Sound and Print processes to found objects and industrial material.
He studied Medicine (1990) and worked in Psychiatry in India before moving on to make films (1995) and later gravitated toward Art.
