Since the pandemic, Goa is seeing an even higher influx of tourists. In fact, the Goa airport had a 24,649 passenger footfall which is the highest it has ever been since Covid-19 hit. Apart from being a fantastic holiday destination, the reason behind the high demand for flights could be attributed to fewer holiday destination options and ‘pandemic fatigue’.
“It was a busy weekend at Goa International Airport, which handled 80 arrivals and 80 departures of domestic flights,” said Goa International Airport director Gagan Malik.
Airport data revealed that 11,319 passengers came to Goa while 13,330 passengers left the State. These numbers don’t include relief flights and the Vande Bharat flights to Sharjah and Dubai. “We haven’t seen any impact on flights. If you look at the footfall numbers, 24,649 which is the highest post resumption, it doesn’t look like there is a decline in travellers,” Malik says. “In the coming days, GoAir is adding six to seven flights, IndiGo is adding two flights and SpiceJet is also adding flights, and we will soon connect to Patna,” he added.
