The President’s police medal for distinguished service, on the occasion of Republic Day 2023, have been declared for Goa DGP Jaspal Singh and superintendent of police serving at the state Raj Bhavan, Vishram Borkar.
The Goa DGP is an IPS officer of the 1996 batch of the AGMUT cadre. He has mostly handled assignments related to crime and law and order. He also has a commendable record of solving heinous cases. He had handled communally sensitive districts in Delhi and, in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was rewarded for his work during the tsunami. He was also recognised for his work with the IB.
They are among 93 across the country for whom the President’s police medal for distinguished service has been declared. The honour is awarded for a special distinguished record in police service.
The police personnel deaths were minimal in Goa during the pandemic, under DGP Singh supervision. Borkar has had a long stint with Goa police and been an SP for more than a decade. Currently, he is aide-decamp (ADC) to the governor.
