The Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was passed on Thursday by the State Legislative Assembly. According to the bill, cess levy will be at the rate of 2% consideration for outway goods supply in non-biodegradable packaging.
Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral stated this bill enforces waste segregation before collection. Cabral stated that there are different plastic types which are named. He added that the purpose of the bill is to keep the State of Goa clean. However, the opposition drew attention to the fact that the people will have to pay more tax as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, introduced the ‘one tax, one country’ model.
