The beautiful state of Goa is getting closer to becoming a hotspot for start-ups. Goa Institute of Management’s (GIM), Atal Incubation Centre has ‘hand-held’ up to thirty start-ups. This centre is the only one in Goa to be under NITI Aayog. The number of start-ups has exceeded the target by double the amount given to the centre by NITI Aayog.
“Goa has become a hub for startups. Goa has one of the highest incubation centres. This is because of government policies. Goa provides a great recipe for start-ups,” said GIM director Ajit Parulekar. “There are 1,300 NITI Aayog-supported startup centres across the country, with the one at GIM being the only one in Goa. We have 31 startups within a span of two years, which is twice the number we had promised NITI Aayog,” he added.
The GIM centre could help boost entrepreneurship as a career option for youngsters. Atal Incubation Centre launched four new programmes on Friday. Three of them are to support women micro-entrepreneurs, help start-ups who have a social cause, and identify entrepreneurial talent in the state. The last programme is the ‘Goa Invest-a-thon’ which aims to draw investments for Goa start-ups.
