As the main venue for Goan theatre plays (tiatrs) is shut, tiatr performers found another venue which is increasing in popularity. Well-known names of the tiatr world are having their shows at the ‘A-Sala-de-Nossa-Senhora-de-Piedade’ community hall at Dando, Candolim.
This hall is also known as the ‘Dando hall’ or ‘Saibinn hall’ because of the Piedade Saibinn chapel near it. When Kala Academy closed for repairs, there weren’t many options. People didn’t want to go to Mapusa. Margao is a famous destination for tiatrists but it’s a bit far away for those living in North Goa. This is why people started flocking to the Dando hall as Candolim is a central location. It was inaugurated by archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao on October 2019. Taj Fort Aguada has its conferences here.
‘Ghor ek Ghorabo’ by Sammy Tavares, ‘Amche Modem Jiyeta’ by Rosefern, and ‘8 Dis’ by Sevy were some tiatrs recently held there and the hall was full!
