Scepticism is rampant among tourism stakeholders in Goa regarding the upcoming direct flights between Goa and Russia under the air bubble programme.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) president Nilesh Shah said: “We don’t know if a visa on arrival would be allowed. Very few people travel to Goa on a business visa, so we wonder how the airline will be able to sustain its operation on this route.” He hopes that the government will issue visas soon.
“In Europe and Russia people are travelling to other countries. Only when tourist visas are issued, people will be able to book their holidays,” Sita Travels chief operating officer Ernest Dias said. He also shared that the tourist season is coming to an end but the government should announce in advance when they will start issuing visas. Otherwise, the next tourist season will be just as bleak. “Only people having business visas will be able to travel on this flight. But how many people will travel?” he added.
If tourists are issued visas by April, and Goa gets one flight a day from Russia, the tourism industry will benefit from it.
