To make life easier for people with disabilities, the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) is making 145 buses wheelchair accessible. They are being installed with a hydraulic lift and will be operating across all of Goa’s KTC bus stands.
This initiative was whole-heartedly accepted by the Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) after they examined a prototype. People who use wheelchairs will benefit from this in another 2 months. The KTC bus conductors will help disabled people to get on the bus.
KTC had done trials of the hydraulic jack but wants to go for a battery-operated lift that can handle 750 kg. This can be used on all types of buses including low floors. The hydraulic lift will be manufactured by KTC in its Porvorim workshop.
