The Shigmo festival of Goa is full of music, dancing, colours, and floats. It is also known as the spring festival or the festival of colours for the people of Goa. Years before, this festival was celebrated in honour of warriors who came back home after Dussehra. Locals dress up in costumes, play traditional Indian instruments, and perform folk dances. This year, Shigmo is to be celebrated at Ponda, Margao, and Panaji.
However, the city of Mapusa wasn’t included in the list. Therefore, local MLA Joshua D’Souza was contacted by the Mapusa Shigmotsav Committee to be told that Mapusa too should be allowed to celebrate. The committee members told D’Souza that Shigmo has always been celebrated in Mapusa. They conveyed the disappointment of the Mapusa residents and those of surrounding villages.
