It has been a great year for Goa’s Olive Ridley turtles. There were a total of 39 nests in Agonda and Galgibaga. More than 3000 baby turtles were released from these areas!
It looks like the turtle season is over. However, these cute visitors even come in May to lay their eggs. Hatching these eggs is a bit harder as the monsoon season is approaching and the sea becomes rough towards the end of May.
There are still 5 turtle pits that haven’t hatched yet. After they do, the number of turtle hatchlings will be even more than last year’s amount! The first Olive Ridley turtle of the season visited Agonda and laid 118 eggs on the last day of 2021. Galgibaga beach received its first turtle a few days later where it laid 117 eggs. A 112 of these hatched recently.
