New IIT campus location to be confirmed by next month

By next month, the new location for the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Goa, will be finalized. Some places have already been shortlisted. B K Mishra, IIT-Goa director, will be inspecting some of these sites. Previously it was proposed that the campus should be set up at Melauli, Sattari, which obtained a lot of opposition from locals. Mishra will be identifying if there are any issues with the shortlisted places.

“After what we have experienced, we will first have to find out what are the difficulties in the shortlisted locations and only then we can finalise it, only then will the survey and other basic work start,” Sawant stated. “But before that, though the team has not yet been formed, our work of searching for a new site is on. I have asked the IIT-Goa director to visit the shortlisted sites. We have three to four proposals before us, and within the next 15 to 20 days, they will visit these places and see what are the practical difficulties involved, if any, at these locations. After that we can declare the site,” he added.
