The new 15.2 km double-tracked Margao-Chandor-Sanvordem route has been officially opened by the South Western Railway (SWR).
This project is a part of the Tinaighat-Vasco double-tracking project. The electrification work of the Goa section is also progressing quite quickly.
The new Margao-Sanvordem section was commissioned after the non-interlocking works at Sanvordem, Chandor, and Margao were completed.
On September 23, the Margao-Chandor-Sanvordem section was inspected and a speed trial was conducted on it. After that, the SWR was permitted to open the route for freight traffic and for passenger commercial services.
Three running lines in Sanvordem and Chandor have been made with signals having a modern electronic interlocking system.
The SWR general manager, Sanjeev Kishore, feels that because of this double line, trains do not have to wait for crossing which will improve train mobility.
