Have you heard about the EatSmart Cities Challenge? Goa’s very own capital city – Panaji – has been shortlisted for this! Ten other cities out of 108 across India has been chosen as well.
This initiative aims to create a plan that fosters a safe, healthy, and sustainable food environment. Panaji City has one certified Eat Right Campus. Its municipal market is in the process of getting the ‘Clean and Fresh Vegetables’ certification. To achieve the ‘Clean Street Food hub’ certification as well, a frequently visited area at Miramar Beach has been developed.
Here are some criteria on how the winning cities were selected – restrictions on plastic use, usage of tech solutions for food safety, campaigns to promote healthy eating amongst youngsters, etc.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) along with the Smart Cities Mission wants to develop the cities’ food ecosystem to make sure its people get safe, healthy food.
