The beloved Carnival festival started today in Panjim with precautionary measures taken due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The South Goa district Collector, Ruchika Katyal, has put down rules for the Margao Carnival. It states that pregnant women, children under the age of 10, senior citizens above 65, and people will co-morbidities won’t be allowed at the float parade. This is to ensure and protect everyone’s safety.
Katyal also specified that those who disobey these rules will be punished by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The issued SOP says that physical distancing has to be maintained in the floats, seating areas, and entry/ exit points. These places must be sanitized as well. The seating area should hold only half of its capacity. Control rooms have to contain an isolation facility fir those with Covid-19 symptoms. An ambulance should be on stand-by for these people.
The spots which are often used will be sanitized by the organizers. Health workers and a medical team will be monitoring the carnival to ensure that everyone is wearing a mask. The full Carnival celebration will be kept under CCTV surveillance.
