Public Lakes And Ponds To Be Fenced

On Friday,Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declared that open water bodies such as ponds and small lakes located in public places will be fenced for the safety of people, especially children. He said this while responding to Joshua D’Souza, Mapusa MLA, who voiced his concern over the state’s drownings especially after hearing about two children from Mapusa who drowned in his own constituency.

Sawant stated that Deputy Collectors will be given instructions to take a note of all the water bodies in their respective jurisdictions and get it fenced as early as possible. He told the people to inform the government in case they see any water body that isn’t provided with fencing. “There are many instances, wherein, if a child is seen drowning, others jump in the water to rescue him, and in that attempt they also get drowned,” Sawant added. The people were also told to be alert while going to new places.
