Querim Beach

If the idea of exploring the other side of Goa, the side that is not so touristy, has been playing on your mind for some time, don your helmets and head out to Querim – an ideal choice considering its close proximity to Anjuna and the fact that it is an amazing ride.

The Journey:  On a hot yet breezy afternoon, head towards Siolim where the grand Siolim church stands at ease – a little further the massive Chopdem Bridge and you will be welcomed into Pernem. The view from here is breathtaking. On one side is the vast Chopdem river and on the other side you can see the confluence of the Arabian Sea with this huge river. A bit after Chopdem market, enter into the long stretch of well-maintained roads leading you into Arambol.

It gets less and less civilized with each passing curve on the road and soon, before you know it, nature has taken over everything. The river is blue with patches of green and the trees and birds fit in perfectly. You’ll notice a whole lot of temples in the small villages and an equal number of chapels proving that everything is in harmony here. Querim is very close now. Several signs marked ‘beach’ leads you in the right direction and after about 500 meters, you’ll see the clear ferocious waters of the pre-monsoon Arabian Sea – you can dive straight into the water!

The experience: Querim beach is very steep. A stretch of about 2 km makes this beach very different from others around here. The life guards stand alert right behind you and strongly monitor everything. As you struggle to fool around with the sea, the waters will tire you out pretty fast so you can spread your sheets and lie down to relax on the beach. Sipping your beers, you’ll be happy to have made this trip and explore the beautiful corners of the state that people visit from far and wide.

Getting there: Querim is well connected by road from anywhere in Goa. You can also take the local bus, starting from Mapusa or Panaji.

Location: To the north of Arambol Beach, Pernem, Goa

Distance from Panjim: 43 Km

Best time to visit: October to May
