Four roads in Panaji, the capital of Goa, will be turned into ‘smart roads’! These roads include the St Inez stretch (3.7 km) and another 1.4-km stretch near the Rua de Ourem creek. The road from Goa International hotel to Taj Vivanta, Bal-Bhavan to Madhuvan Junction through Caculo Mall and the Sheetal Hotel Junction will also be turned into smart roads.
The entire project will be around Rs 120 crore.
Panaji city has a jumble of telecom lines, gas lines, electricity cables, optical fibre cables, water pipelines, etc. Many of them pass through storm drains. Sometimes, when roads are dug up for work, it leads to damage as underground unmarked cables/ pipelines get damaged.
Overhead power lines will be replaced with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) underground ducts. Television cables, optical fibre cables, and water pipelines will be moved to allocated trenches. This may lead to temporary disruptions for the public.
