After 2 years, the ‘Spirit of Goa’ festival is back on track! Its main purpose is to showcase Feni – Goa’s heritage drink. The state’s noteworthy Feni distillers and bottlers will be participating. It will start on April 29 and end on May 1.
Over here, one can get acquainted with different varieties of Feni. The vessels and instruments used to make it will be on display. Local food and music will also be the highlights of this festival. Goan dishes will be available at the food stalls.
Due to the pandemic, the event wasn’t conducted for 2 years. The festival is important as it played a vital role in promoting Feni as the heritage drink. During the last few years, the Feni industry has been suffering as inferior products entered the market with no quality criteria in place. A feni policy has been put in place but the steps taken for quality control haven’t made much progress. There were delays because of Covid-19.
There are some Feni distillers who have been in this business for generations. They didn’t compromise on quality and even made sure the drink was exported. This is how the drink maintained its relevance till now.
