Are beer bottles ruining your Goa vacation? It’s very disheartening to find beer bottles just thrown around, spoiling the beauty of the place. To tackle this, the ‘Beer Bottle Project’ was started.
Their aim is to decrease the one-time use of glass beer bottles by working together with local beer companies to reuse their own bottles, provide incentives for waste collectors, and inspire policies to end litter that can be avoided.
Private agencies were hired by the state government to get rid of the bottles. However, with the millions of bottles discarded annually, it’s not easy to deal with. After all, beer is one of the most demanded drinks in Goa. Glass is worse than plastic – it takes a million years to degrade while plastic takes around 400 years.
The people behind the ‘Beer Bottle Project’ want to talk to some local companies and figure out some solutions – like where can the bottles be collected, where they can be washed, etc. It’s still in the early stages. They want customers to be able to give back their bottles and get paid for them which will be an incentive to reduce litter.
