The new Goa Mopa international airport is 75% ready! The runways have been built already. At the moment, they are working on the connectivity between the runways and the passenger terminal.
By next week the air traffic control building will be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The technical building has already been given to them. So, the AAI will start installing equipment there. Staff who have been hired for baggage screening, airport rescues, and fire fighting have been sent to other states for training.
This Goa Mopa airport project is divided into 4 phases. The work planned under the second phase will start only when 80% of passenger traffic is handled. The airport will be inaugurated by Prime minister Narendra Modi on August 15 2022.
After the infrastructure is ready, it will take around 6 months to get all the necessary clearances and permissions to start operating.
