The gorgeous mangrove boardwalk at Patto, Panjim, is being extended and will be completed by March. Did you know that this boardwalk is only the second one in India? The only other one is in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Goa’s mangrove boardwalk is a part of the Smart City Mission and costs around Rs 4.2 crore. Its purpose was to show everyone the importance of mangroves for Panjim’s Ourem creek. As of now, 80% of the work is completed. Information boards about the flora and fauna and the lighting remain to be installed.
A lot of migratory birds can be seen amongst the mangroves. The boardwalk will connect the small island in the Ourem Creek and the Santa Monica jetty. A restaurant, recreation space, and exhibition space may come up as well.
