To prevent flooding in Goa during the monsoons, the water resources department (WRD) along with the Margao and Benaulim MLAs inspected the Sal. The WRD has been requested to urgently build retaining walls where the existing walls look like they’re going to give way, desilt the nullahs, and dredge certain areas.
These precautions are being taken before the monsoons so that Margao, etc, don’t get affected by flooding. This won’t be the only inspection of the Sal. There will be more.
The Benaulim MLA has informed residents to contact their offices if they spot nullahs that haven’t been cleared, or if there is any mud, weeds, or water hyacinth that haven’t been removed before the rainy season.
