Two men made Goa proud by rescuing innocent deer from the jaws of death. There was a lot of poaching going on in Canacona, but now these rescues gives a glimmer of hope that people in rural areas are aware of the importance of saving wildlife.
The first rescue happened a week ago. A bleeding deer being chased by stray dogs ran past pharmacist ,Dinesh Pai, and his wife. Pai ran after the deer for quite a while and steered it away from the dogs. The deer was bleeding even from its ears. The man called forest officials who give the deer medical treatment. It was taken to Hati-Pawl Animal Rescue Centre at Cotigao and then transferred to Bondla zoo.
The second rescue happened at Sadanand Bhandari’s cashew plantation at Poinguinim. This time it wasn’t stray dogs but his own dogs who attacked the deer. He hurried to save the deer before it was too late. This deer too was given to the Hati-Pawl rescue centre.
