The delicious local vegetables of Goa will be sourced by the Goa government at new rates. A new minimum purchase price has been set for them by the directorate of agriculture. The new prices cover 25 types of crops.
The procurement price is 150% of the average cost of cultivation. For example, if a farmer has invested Rs.10 for a particular crop, the price fixed for the farmer will be Rs.15 minimum. This will ensure that farmers get a profitable amount for their hard work.
Farmers can get these benefits by registering their harvest with the zonal agricultural office in their area. The vegetables of local farmers will be sold in the Goa state horticulture corporation’s 1200 outlets. Other than vegetables, raw jackfruit and the banana flower are on the list as they are eaten as vegetables.
Previously, the prices were fixed according to the rates given by Belagavi farmers. Unfortunately, with this system, not all farmers in Goa were able to get a profitable amount for their crop even though they had a good yield. This is why changes have been made.
